Cognex® DataMan® 8000 readers set the new performance standard when it comes to industrial code reading. These newly designed readers build on the capabilities of the existing highly successful DataMan handheld readers, which have been the benchmark for industrial direct part mark (DPM) code reading performance since their release. The DataMan 8000 Series introduces several firsts to industrial handheld reader capabilities, including:

Liquid Lens Technology = Automatic Variable Focus - The DataMan 8000 Series is the first industrial handheld reader to offer integrated liquid lens technology. The adjustable focus of the liquid lens gives the maximum depth of field flexibility for an image-based handheld reader.

Superior Code Reading Advancements – The DataMan 8000 Series is powered by Cognex patented IDMax® technology and two powerful algorithms, 1DMax™ and 2DMax™, that provide the most advanced decoding available for reading virtually every type of code, every time, with unsurpassed read rates.

Ethernet – The DataMan 8000 Series readers are the first to offer Ethernet communication capability in a handheld reader.

The DataMan 8000 Series represents a true breakthrough for industrial handheld readers and are available in two models:
• DataMan 8500. The DataMan 8500 readers incorporate patented UltraLight® technology from Cognex for superior image formation on any mark type and surface.
• DataMan 8100. Includes all the features of the DataMan 8500 readers, with bright field illumination. The DataMan 8100 readers are ideal for applications that require superior code reading performance without specialty lighting.

Cognex Dataman 100 & 200 Series Barcode Scanner

Every so often, there comes along some newer technology that simply separates itself from the rest of the competition.  If only for while, the Cognex DataMan 100 & 200 Series does just that.  Our Cognex representatives were her at Advanced Automation recently and we got a chance to see the Dataman 200 put on an incredible performance.

The DataMan 100/200 is a fixed-mount scanner that enables one to confidently read some of the most challenging of barcodes.  Capable of reading both 1D/2D barcodes as well as low-contrast codes on uniform backgrounds.  In addition to being capable of reading several codes, the DataMan separates itself with its speed and accuracy.  Fast moving parts or codes are no problem.  This device can read up to 30 codes per second as long as quality codes being provided.  Hands down… that is FAST! Additionally, these readers can be affixed with different different lenses to achieve long-distance reads if the application requires it.

The Cognex DataMan comes as 3 different versions:
100S/200S– For slow-moving parts or index motion where parts have well-marked 1D/2D barcodes
100Q/200Q– Fast, high-performance code reading of 1D/2D barcodes on fast-moving parts.
100X/200X – Highest-performance code reading for applications that require reading the most challenging DPM (direct parts marking) codes, as well as 1D barcode reading

Cognex also has a patented code reading software that works in coordination with the DataMan 100/200 series or other Cognex readers that provides a robust platform for identification.   The ability to control nearly ever aspect of the scanners from pattern recognition to scan frequency.  The software truly is something that you can’t truly grasp until you toy with it yourself!
